Problem

How might we get students connected by joining events they are interested in?

We decided to develop a social media platform with various activities where students can create events or choose to join events created by others.

Solution

User Research

Find out how people connect with their interest groups and what struggles they face in finding and communicating for in-person activities.

Research Goal

What Kind of club did you join this semester? If not, Why?

How do you find someone with same interests?

Can you share your last experience asking friends to hang out?

Research Question

Research Finding

  • New students find it hard to engage with others with the same interests because there aren’t enough in-person connections and campus activities

  • Students find it hard to meet anyone outside of their major and regular classes.

  • Sometimes school doesn’t have the club students interested.

Persona

Based on the struggles students faced, as identified through research, I have summarized two personas to deepen my understanding of the users' pain points.

Information Architecture

As a team, the personas helped us ideate all the functions we wanted to include in our platform. I classified and organized them into an information architecture through multiple group discussions and refinements.

The information architecture guided us in structuring the app, and based on all the identified features, we began to design the interfaces.

High-fi

Onboarding Experience

To ensure student safety during onboarding, we have implemented school email verification.

Creating Event

New students often find it difficult to connect. To help, we designed a platform that enables them to create and host events. This allows others to join and engage through social media.

Joining Events

Sometimes, schools don't offer clubs that align with students' interests, making it hard to meet people outside their major. To solve this, our platform offers various activities for students to join, with group chats for better engagement.

Reflection

Through this internship, I developed my  UX design skills and learned to cooperate with a multi-disciplinary team, including marketing and front-end development. I want to thank my team for believing in me, and I learned a lot from the senior designer's critiques.
