Project Overview
As a class project, we designed a multi-device interactive system between Syracuse University’s two facilities and students.

Project Background
This design project is centered around the services and environments of these two collage's facilities.
Include Gym, Pharmacy, Health Care
Barns Center
Schine Student Center
Food Court, Studying Seats
Problem
How might we improve student efficiency and time management within these two facilities?
Solution
An interactive system built in Schine(Food court) and Barns(Gym &Pharmacy) to improve student experiences. Which integrate kiosk and students’ phone.
User Research
Our group conducted field studies to observe students' struggles and behavior patterns in real-world settings within these two campus facilities.
Research Goal
Research Method: Field Study
To better visualize group dynamics and how they interact with the space of these two facilities, we summarized the different routes within these facilities using sociograms.
Barns Center
Enter
Exit
As the sociogram indicates, all students are required to swipe their ID at the front desk to enter the gym, and those who forget their ID are prevented from entering.
Schine Student Center
Enter
Exit
As the sociogram illustrates, most students typically line up in the food court and then proceed to find seats after receiving their orders. During peak hours, it becomes challenging for groups of students to find available seating, as some individual students may occupy entire tables.
Research Method: 24 on-site interviews
Through talking to students on-site, we wanted to find out the purpose of their visit and identify any difficulties they have encountered while interacting with the services the facilities have provided.
Research Goal
Quotes from Students
“I came here to pick up my medicine at the pharmacy, but it apparently closed.”
Barns Center
Schine Student Center
“I tried sitting in main area but there are no open seats.”
“There were like thirty people working in the front, super busy.”
Summary of User Research Finding
Students sometimes forget to bring their ID cards.
Students miss the date to pick up their medicine.
Barns Center
There are always long lines in the food court at Schine Center.
Students can’t find seats when they grab lunch with groups of friends.
Schine Student Center
User Scenarios
We incorporated our research findings into four user scenarios.
Students use kiosks in the check-in area to scan the QR code on the portal that allows students to go into the gym area without carrying a student ID.
Students get their prescriptions renewed, refilled, and notified when they are ready via the app.
Barns Center
Students use an app to check how busy the restaurant in Schine is.
Larger groups of people can “reserve” larger tables online
Schine Student Center
Scenario 1
Students using an app checking how busy the restaurant in Schine is.
Scenario 2
Larger groups of people can “reserve” larger tables online
Student using kiosk in check-in area to scan QR code on portal that allows students to go into the gym area without carrying student ID.
Scenario 3
Employee perspective
Students get their prescriptions renewed, refilled, and notified when they are ready via the app.
Scenario 4
Reflection
For this student project, I challenge myself to think overall picture of a system to solve users’ pain points.
I learned a lot from analyzing both the physical space and digital interactions to address pain points among various devices, aiming to provide more efficient services.
